Hello, Gorgeous

Yesterday was the 45th anniversary of the Broadway opening of "Funny Girl" with Barbra Streisand. On March 26, 1964, "Funny Girl" opened at The Winter Garden Theatre and ran for three years, closing with a total of 1,348 performances. More importantly, Miss Streisand's performance cemented her rise to major stardom, and a half-century of fanatic devotion from gay men and Jersey housewives was born. Incidentally, the original "Funny Girl" cast also included Jean Stapleton, the future Mrs. Archie Bunker, and Lainie Kazan, who understudied Streisand as "Fanny Brice".

.
In 1968, the motion picture of "Funny Girl" was released, for which Streisand won an Oscar for Best Actress.
.
Trivia Alert: Streisand tied in the Oscar voting with Katherine Hepburn for "The Lion in Winter", and both women were awarded the Oscar. The Academy claims that the final voting tally was an exact tie.
