Hugh Martin, musical theater and film composer, arranger, vocal coach, playwright, actor and composer of some the most popular songs in pop music history, has died at 96.

4-time Tony nominee and 2-time Oscar nominee, Martin is most famous for writing, with his partner Ralph Blane, the score for the classic MGM Judy Garland musical, "Meet Me in St. Louis", as well as the songs from that film, "The Boy Next Door", "The Trolley Song" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". Martin became great friends with Judy Garland, and later worked as her accompanist for some of her 1950's concerts, including her legendary show at The Palace Theater in New York.

In addition to his many other accolades, Martin was, in 1983, inducted into the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame.
