Happy New Year from the Poop Deck of the S.S. Poseidon

Well, it's the last day of 2010. It was a fine year, but we're looking forward to an even better 2011. And what's coming just around the corner?
.
The Australian Open begins in a couple of weeks, and we hope we'll see Federer and Nadal continue the greatest rivalry in sports by meeting in the final.
.
The Oscar nominations will soon be announced, and the major awards season kicks into gear. And despite the fear that Britney or Miley might take the stage, The Grammy Awards are usually the best night of the year in music performances.
.
And of course, the new Republican-dominated Congress, with Tea Bagger members in tow, will take office. We can't wait. Not that we look forward to the Repubs trying to gut everything we care about in American society in an all-out effort to grab everything in sight for themselves, but we know what's really going to happen. Despite the fact that the Republicans are crowing today, much like the "Poseidon Adventure" gang once excitedly rang in the New Year just before disaster struck, the Republicans will soon shoot themselves in the foot, as they always do, over acts of hypocrisy and greedy over-reaching.
.
.
.

And just like on The S.S. Poseidon, the Republican ship will soon start to turn upside down, and before you know it, one of the Repubs will fall into the giant light fixture and turn out the lights on their whole party. Happy New Year!
