2009 Grammys - 10:28 pm

Back at The Grammys, Samuel L. Jackson introduces T.I. and Justin Timberlake. Oh, god. They're giving Miss Timberlake another chance. Okay, so he hit his first notes better than earlier in the show, but can someone explain to us why this guy is a music "star". There's just no reasonable explanation for it. There's nothing really interesting or unique about his vocals, he's just... oh fuck it, we're fast forwarding!
.
The President of the Academy spoke, thank god for our fast forward command, then Smokey Robinson came out to announce that The Four Tops were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The only surviving member of the original Tops, Duke Fakir, took the stage with Smokey, Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx to sing "I'll be There", "Standing in the Shadows of Love" and "Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch". Jamie Foxx? Okay, that's it. Who produced this f**king show? Miss Timberlake sings twice,
Miley Cyrus murders a Taylor Swift song, and now Jamie Foxx is allowed to sing with legends Duke Fakir and Smokey. Ne-Yo is bad enough, but Jamie Foxx? Levi Stubbs must be turning over in his grave.

Neil Diamond performed his old hit "Sweet Caroline". We've never been huge Neil Diamond fans, but on the heels of Miss Timberlake and Jamie Foxx, he wooden vocals sounded like delicious, warm, sweet honey. Once again, the oldies in the audience appreciated, the pre-pubes looked confused.

The montage of dead performers rolled out, and until that moment we didn't realize that Mike Smith, lead singer of the Dave Clark Five, had died, or Pervis Jackson, one of The Spinners. We were also suprised to see that Neil Hefti, the composer of the theme song for the old "Batman" t.v. show had died, along with incredible vocalist Jo Stafford, and Earle Hagan, the composer of the theme for "The Andy Griffith Show", and most shockingly, Bo Diddley! How did we miss the death of Bo Diddley? Following the film montage was an all-star tribute to Mr. Diddley featuring John Mayer and BB King.
