Countdown to the Oscars

Sadly, the Olympics finally came to an end, so we're forced to return to the real world. Yes, it's time to start dealing once again with the questions of real life, the things that really matter, such as "Who's going to win the Oscars?"

Today on NPR, a film critic mused that maybe front-runners "The Hurt Locker" and "Avatar" would split the vote and "Inglorious Basterds" would sneak in for the win for Best Picture. Uh... no. First, Hurt and Avatar are vastly superior films to the uneven, sometimes juvenile, revenge fantasy Basterds, (as if the "Best" film ever really wins), but Hurt has other qualities which make it irresistable to Academy voters. It's an "anti-war" movie, which liberal Hollywood loves, and if it wins, it will be the first time ever that a female-directed film wins for Best Picture. Hollywood would love to see a woman, (Kathryn Bigelow), win for Best Picture and Director.

As for Inglorious Basterds, let's get really real here, no movie with a performance as cringe-inducing as Brad Pitt's will win Best Picture. Mark it down. Look, we love Mr. Jolie, seriously, but the guy cannot act. That Southern accent he created, good god, it's straight out of the Scarlett O'Hara school of fake, Hollywood, Southern accents. Listening to his dialogue in the film made our skin crawl. But luckily, the film's other performances were inspired, and Christoph Waltz is truly deserving of the Supporting Actor Oscar he's going to win. He made our skin crawl, too, but for the right reasons; because he was so believable, and he scared the crap out of us. It was also great to see the German actor, Til Schweiger, (pictured below), one of the sexiest guys in movies. We first discovered him in the 1994 film, "Maybe, Maybe Not", and he's only gotten better looking with age.

Oscar Fashion

A few weeks ago, on this very blog, we discussed the really awful trend of men's pants being too long. Just for the record, it was never in style, and it always did, and always will, look completely stupid. It makes the wearer look like he simply doesn't know how to dress.
.
Cast in point: Look at the difference in the pants of Brad Pitt and Dev Patel at tonight's Oscars. Brad's pants look ridiculous; he looks like some college freshman who's wearing his first tux and without Mommy around to help him, he didn't know to get the pants tailored. On the other hand, Dev's tux is perfectly tailored, and it makes his overall body shape look incredible. Brad, you're a multi-millionaire, try looking like one.

More Arrivals - 8:05 pm

We were afraid that Angelina would show up dressed like she dressed at most of the other awards shows this year, as a dowdy, aging matron whose kids have worn out her private parts as well as her spirit. But we can happily say, she turned it out tonight. Thank god.

The Brady Bunch Goes Wild!

We just read the funniest thing. While Mummy and Daddy Pitt were attending the Bafta Awards the other night in London, (Bafta posts below), it seems the rugrats were wreaking havoc at The Dorchester, one of London's top hotels.

Brad and Angelina and their kids, Maddox, 7, Pax, 5, Zahara, 3, Shiloh, 2, and 7-month-old twins Viv and Knox, took over almost an entire floor at the city's posh hotel for the family's short stay in the U.K. capital. And the four eldest children angered other hotel guests by running amok in the corridors.

.
A guest told British newspaper The Sun, "They were running up and down the hallway for over an hour. Their nanny tried to quieten them down and move them out the way when people came through. But she had her hands full with the four of them."
.
Alice must have been down at the butcher shop again playing with Sam's sausage.

The Host tells more jokes about Brad Pitt being handsome. Cut to audience: Brad and Angelina are not smiling.

"Benjamin Button" and "Slumdog Millionaire" split the first four minor awards. Cut to audience: Brad and Angelina are not smiling.

Another host makes a remark about Brad Pitt being really, really handsome. Huh. Do you think Brad ever looks in the mirror and has issues?
