Are Many Cans of Pringles in Chris Hemsworth's Near Future?

The new "Thor" movie is finally out, starring the Australian actor, Chris Hemsworth. Click here for our previous postings about the build-up to the movie. Now that the comic book movie is finally out, already the internet is aflame with discussion of the actor's new pumped-up body. At left are "before" and "after" photos of Hemsworth.










We're a little worried, though, because as good as Hemsworth looks, we've seen this story before. An obscure actor gets cast in a big budget action movie, the actor spends months beefing up for the role, he makes a huge splash with his new body, and then, in no time, the new body is gone.







Remember when Gerard Butler of "300" fame went from "Gerard" to "Ge-Lard"? Oh my. Please, Chris Hemsworth, we're begging you, don't let this happen to you.

The Lightening God Comes to Earth, and a Movie Theater Near You

If you've not heard of actor Chris Hemsworth, don't worry, you soon will. This guy is about to blow up, and blow up big.
.Up until now, Hemsworth had only acted in Australian t.v. shows and a couple of small films. Then he popped up in a small role in last year's "A Perfect Getaway", and suddenly the movie casting gods liked what they saw. Next up for Hemsworth is the big budget remake of "Red Dawn", in which he plays the role that helped to make Patrick Swayze a star. After "Dawn", he plays the title role in the Kenneth Branaugh-directed "Thor", his co-star being the red hot Natalie Portman. And in a twist of movie fate, (or was it planned?), Hemsworth then stars in "The Avengers" in which he again plays the comic book hero, Thor. Trust us, this guy is going to be all over the place in 2011.

.The only question left is whether or not Hemsworth is going to be able to fill out, literally, the metal breastplate of the Norse god. In the comics, Thor had a massive muscularity. In the photo above, you can see that Hemsworth's slight frame, wrapped in a layer of post-pubescent baby fat, wasn't exactly intimidating, much less reminiscent of a comic book stud.

.But in more recent photos, you can see that Hemsworth has started to fill out, adding some size to his formerly scrawny biceps. But we still weren't convinced that Thor's producers had gotten their money's worth from Hemsworth's personal trainer.

And then we found the final photo here which looks like a still from the movie, and holy Viking helmet, look at those arms! Who knows, maybe those guns are the product of digital enhancement, but if not, then this guy had better get ready for greatness. Or at least a hell of a lot of attention paid to his body.

Hollywood Watch

The comic book-inspired trend in movies continues with the upcoming Kenneth Branagh directed "Thor". Cast in the lead, opposite Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins, is a relative newcomer, Australian Chris Hemsworth. At right is the first still photograph released from the film. Really? is this the best they could come up with? And this one, really vague shot is supposed to whet our appetite for more? Oh well, bad P.R. work aside, hopefully we'll get more shots of Chris Hemsworth like the ones below from his previous role in an Aussie soap opera.
