Are Many Cans of Pringles in Chris Hemsworth's Near Future?

The new "Thor" movie is finally out, starring the Australian actor, Chris Hemsworth. Click here for our previous postings about the build-up to the movie. Now that the comic book movie is finally out, already the internet is aflame with discussion of the actor's new pumped-up body. At left are "before" and "after" photos of Hemsworth.

We're a little worried, though, because as good as Hemsworth looks, we've seen this story before. An obscure actor gets cast in a big budget action movie, the actor spends months beefing up for the role, he makes a huge splash with his new body, and then, in no time, the new body is gone.

Remember when Gerard Butler of "300" fame went from "Gerard" to "Ge-Lard"? Oh my. Please, Chris Hemsworth, we're begging you, don't let this happen to you.

Would It Kill You To Do a Couple of Sit-Ups?

Happy 41st Birthday to Gerard Butler. Butler is one of those rare Hollywood types who is running the risk of making us fall out of love with him as fast as we fell in love with him. The guy's been making movies since 1997, and we sort of remember him in "Dracula 2000" and "Reign of Fire", but for some reason, we didn't really notice him until he sang and charmed us as The Phantom in "The Phantom of the Opera" in 2004. But then, two years later came his career-making role in "300", and thanks to his massive pecs and ripped abs, he gave new meaning to the old gladiator movies of the 1950's and sparked a million new fantasies in the minds of young gay boys everywhere. For a very short time, Gerard Butler was sex personified; quite simply put, the guy was hot.
.
From that point on, Butler was on a roll; he followed "300" with our truly favorite Gerard Butler movie, "RocknRolla". God, that was a great movie! But it was also during Butler's post-"300" career that the wheels almost completely came off. Despite being red hot after "300" and having his choice of probably any movie role he wanted, he made one disastrously bad romantic comedy after another: "The Ugly Truth", "P.S. I Love You" and worst of all, "The Bounty Hunter". Pee-Yew. Just thinking about those three movies makes us want to vomit. He famously lost his "300" body pretty quickly; he's appeared on beaches in the past couple of years looking like a fat, bloated baby whale, but did he lose his balls at the same time he lost his abs? Come on, Gerard, put down the tub of Ben and Jerry's, get into shape, and stop with the awful chick flicks. In the classic words of Sharron Angle, "Man up!"; make a movie that not only gets your career back on track but one that guys can watch without cringing.
.
.
He might already be taking our advice. Next up for Butler is "Coriolanus", a military-themed movie with Ralph Fiennes. Look at the photo still from the upcoming movie, Butler looks like a man again! Maybe dating man-killer, (and career-killer), Jennifer Aniston didn't completely destroy his career after all; let's hope not.

Is a 'Friends' Reunion Movie Near?

.
Jennifer Aniston, who manages to get dumped by every man she dates/marries, evidently has no better taste in selecting film scripts than she does in men.
.
We joked a few days ago, (see 'Actors - Gerard Butler' in the Labels list), that Jennifer Aniston's new movie with Gerard Butler, "The Bounty Hunter", looked like a shitty one, and evidently we were right.

.
Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the movie 1.5 out of 4 stars. "Why, oh, why, was this movie necessary?" he wrote. Entertainment Weekly's Owen Gleiberman gave "The Bounty Hunter" a 'C', and wrote that while the audience will easily believe the two leads hate each other at the film's beginning, "why they love each other" is far less clear. Wesley Morris of The Boston Globe regrets the wasting of Aniston's talents, and gives the movie 1.5 out of 4 stars. The Hollywood Reporter's Kirk Honeycutt called the movie "lame" and "thoroughly unfunny", and that "the two leads pretty much punch the clock."
.
Are we movie soothsayers? Hardly. But there's one way to always tell when a movie sucks. If the movie's trailer doesn't have one, single, funny moment, and worse, even contains moments which are cringe-worthy, you can bet there's nothing better in the movie that they're somehow hoping you'll wait to get to the theater to see. And the trailer for "The Bounty Hunter" is hard to sit through without cringing. Evidently Aniston and Butler are a couple in real life. If their romance is no stronger than this movie stinker, Jennifer will soon be able to put another notch on that bed post marked "men who have slept here and then dumped me".
.
But will the movie make money this weekend? Of course, women are suckers for romantic comedy,
"date movies". They think Butler is handsome, and they love to look at Aniston's hair. But when the producers of the movie crow about how much money was raked in, (by the poor, innocent, unsuspecting people who plunked down good money to see this piece of crap), you'll notice that those same producers never, ever report how many people asked for their money back.

Backstage at The Oscars

Backstage at the 2010 Oscars...

Bradley Cooper: What is Ryan Seacrest doing with those tweezers? Oh man, he's plucking Zac Efron's eyebrows.

Gerard Butler: Hmmm. Strange. Very strange.

2010 Oscar Red Carpet IV

Gerard Butler might not be in "300" shape any longer, but hey, we're not kicking him out of bed, or anywhere else for that matter, anytime soon. We don't even mind if he keeps making shitty movies, like the one he's in now with Jennifer Aniston, just keep showing up on our movie screens, that's all we ask.
